In my future bathroom you’ll find only one lipstick

I am not there yet, but my goal is to have just one single lipstick in a never-out-of-style shade. My signature lipstick. For the rest of my life. Or at least for the next decade. I haven’t found the one yet but I wasn’t really on the search lately. But I wrote down a few tips today to make the search for your signature lipstick a little bit easier.

  1. try, try, try!

Go to a store, whether it be a Sephora, Mac or any other store and swatch the hell out of those testers. Swatch every color you like on your arm, then go outside into the daylight. Choose a few colors that harmonize with your skin tone and try the testers on your lips (with your fingertips!). If you can’t settle, take pictures and come back a few days later.

  2. no limited editions!

Don’t go for limited colors. We’re looking for a color that stays. We don’t want to repeat the whole process after 3 months because your signature color was discontinued. Look for lipstick colors that have been around for a long time already. We’re looking for iconic lipstick shades!

  3. settle on a finish

It'‘s easier to pick a color if you already know for what finish you’ll go. I personally like shiny or semi matt finishes best. I won’t ever go for fully matt ones - they look awful on my lips!

  4. Choose timeless brands

Choose a brand like Mac, Nars, Estée Lauder or others that have a lot of experience. The quality will be good and the chances of the lipstick shade being discontinued are much, much smaller. If you go for an iconic shade, even better!

Today I ordered a few lipstick shades to look at them in real. Before, I googled for swatches and try ons, but it’s always hard to know how the color really looks. I am more the person for a light, nudish color. I never reach for dark colors since they look extra dark on me. I also don’t like too pinkish colors. I’ll let you know which one I picked a soon as I decided!
